Opera Memphis’ sixth annual MIDTOWN OPERA FESTIVAL is coming to Playhouse on the Square April 6-14, 2018. The Festival is anchored by two evenings of opera, The Triumph of Honor and The Opera 901 Showcase. Each opera is preceded by an Opera Prelude Talk, providing insight into the story, characters, and music we’ll experience. After the opera, the audience is invited to join us for in the Festival Lounge for a drink or head to one of the many Festival Fringe Events.

Mallory Heights Community Club members commemorate 50 years since Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s death through a MLK50 Walk/Run A-Thon. Start time TBA. Open to for wheelchair participants, walkers and runners. MHCC will walk/run FORWARD and DREAM BIG to empower the community, educate the youth and promote justice and peace through nonviolence.
The Sing-Sista-Sing MLK50 Gospel Concert: “Honoring The Legacy of Faith” will be a journey through the civil rights movement. It will include video excerpts of several of Dr. King’s speeches while local and national recording artists render music reflective of the faith that served and continues to serve as an encouragement to all who stand for equality in all aspects of life.
This event will be held on the campus of the University of Memphis in two locations. The official conference site will be the Holiday Inn at the University of Memphis and the University Center for breakout sessions. The SEPSEA Conference and Capacity Building Institute is being hosted by the University’s Institute on Disability Career Development and Transition programs.
