Government Efficiency
In today’s climate of sluggish revenue growth (property tax collections only grew by an average of 1% over the past ten years) while government costs have increased by over 5%, Memphis Tomorrow believes it is essential that government be operating cost effectively and efficiently. To that end, Memphis Tomorrow has, among other things. . .
- Encouraged and participated in the review of Mayor A C Wharton’s County Five Year Strategic Financial and Management Plan (aka ‘efficiency study)
- Encouraged Mayor Herenton and City Council to launch a comparable Five Year Plan/Efficiency Study for the City, and agreed to provide leadership on a ‘steering committee’ for the planning effort.
Government Effectiveness
Effective government requires high quality elected officials. To that end, Memphis Tomorrow has supported a new initiative called Coalition for a Better Memphis (CBM). CBM is a diverse coalition of businesses and organizations that educates the citizenry on the candidates for election. Begun this year, CBM produces voters guides and supports other forms of voter education.
